“How soon will I see results?”
Gosh. If I had a dollar for every time I was asked that question.
There is this really strange idea that spellwork has a fixed timeline and, worse, that the timeline somehow proves a spell’s competence or efficacy.
I get it. You want something measurable. You want something tangible to hold the work against.
But when has trying to force the tangible onto the spiritual ever actually helped?
Do people pray and say, “God, please help me with this situation by October 3rd”?
Maybe in rare circumstances, something might happen that way. But more often than not, you do not get to force God’s hand as to when things unfold.
Spellwork is no different.
Then there is the whole,
“You should expect changes within three lunar cycles.”
That is not a useful measurement either.
You can guess. You can make an educated guess based on a situation, a person, a type of work, and previous experience. But that is all it is: a guess.
You cannot honestly give a fixed timeline.
Why timelines are unhelpful
Circumstances.
Casting the same spell for an infinite number of different circumstances will yield different results on different timelines. There are so many variables involved that influence how, why, and when something unfolds.
You live a unique life. You have unique circumstances. You have unique variables.
Energy flows through different avenues, and the amount of resistance it encounters while navigating those avenues matters. That is everything.
And before you get disgruntled and storm off because I will not give you a timeline: nobody can.
And if they do, they are either lying or taking a wild guess.
That is what makes magick frustrating at times.
Some people walk into my space, my sacred space, my temple, my altar; and act entitled. They say:
“No. This is going by my rules. I want something to happen this way, within this amount of time, or you are no good, weak, or a scam.”
Yeah?
I am sorry, but if you had that much authority, why do you not cut the line and say that up there in front of the throne of God?
I wish. Seriously, I wish I could give you a timeline.
It would make my job easier. You would not have to anxiously wait for things to unfold if you knew exactly how and when they would.
But you do not. Because that is how life is. Timelines do not work.
I can sympathize with wanting a timeline to verify whether something worked at all. That is valid. But if you can understand this:
All spellwork works. It just does not always take the form we assume it will.
Then you do not need a timeline to verify everything.
You can go about your life as though it is going to happen anyway, because that is exactly what you need to do.
No, “thinking positive” will not make it come faster.
Neither will trying to micromanage every single part of your life in an attempt to force the outcome.
As the old saying goes: let go, and let God.
That applies to spellwork and spirit work too. Let it happen on its own. Let it do the job it needs to do. Do not assume that you know better than the spirits or ruling forces and start telling them how to do their job. Let them do their job in the time it needs to take. No ifs, ands, or buts. I do not care if that sounds dismissive.
Do not sabotage the life you want because you feel like you need to bring reality to its knees and dictate exactly how it should happen for you.
The spell is on your side. Do not move the goalposts.
